First Planeload of Wounded Palestinian Children Reaches UAE for Medical Relief

UAE Fulfilling Pledged Effort to Aid 1,000 Children Affected by Israel-Hamas War

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates — In a humanitarian effort to address the impact of the Israel-Hamas conflict in the Gaza Strip, the United Arab Emirates welcomed the first group of Palestinian children, along with their family members, who have been wounded in the ongoing war. This initiative is part of the UAE’s commitment to providing relief to a total of 1,000 affected children.

The journey for this group of 15 individuals began as they crossed the Rafah border crossing with Egypt, ultimately reaching Abu Dhabi after a flight. The scene on the plane was poignant, with young children, some with bandaged limbs, accompanied by their exhausted mothers. Notably, some seats were removed to accommodate the most critically wounded children, who required stretchers.

Twelve-year-old Amr Jandieh, reflecting on his harrowing experience, shared a heartbreaking account of losing his uncle and witnessing his father’s injury during a missile attack. His journey to the UAE was a solitary one, mirroring the resilience of many children affected by the conflict.

Mohammed Abu Tabikh, 14, another passenger, faced serious injuries to his neck and spine in a car strike. His subdued words highlighted the trauma experienced by these young victims.

Nabila Mahmoud and her 17-year-old daughter Rawan, who suffered a broken pelvis, recounted the devastating loss of 13 family members due to a direct missile hit on their home.

The conflict, now in its seventh week, originated from Hamas’ attack in southern Israel on October 7, resulting in casualties and abductions. Ongoing Israeli military strikes on Gaza, in retaliation, have led to a significant toll, with over 11,400 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, reported dead, and 2,700 missing, believed buried under debris.

It’s crucial to note that the UAE, which has diplomatic ties with Israel since a 2020 recognition deal, is actively engaged in this humanitarian mission to provide aid and medical support to the affected Palestinian children.
