WWE Announces Annual ‘Tribute to the Troops’ Special, Montez Ford Reflects on its Significance

Pro Wrestling Conglomerate to Honor U.S. Armed Forces for 21st Consecutive Year

Providence, Rhode Island – WWE is set to host its annual “Tribute to the Troops” special on December 8, marking the 21st consecutive year of honoring the U.S. armed forces and veterans. The event, airing on FOX from the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island, holds particular importance for WWE superstar Montez Ford, a former U.S. Marine.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Ford expressed the profound meaning behind the tribute. “This is another way of WWE extending our thank you to the service members, men and women, to thank them for their service, their due diligence (and) their sacrifice,” he said.

Having served in the U.S. Marines before joining WWE and becoming one-half of the tag team known as the Street Profits, Ford shared his personal connection to the event. He recounted attending a WWE ‘RAW’ as a service member when WWE offered complimentary tickets to military personnel. The annual tribute, occurring right before the holidays, holds special significance for Ford.

“It’s always exciting. It’s always a great time of the year. It’s right before the holidays, so it’s always a perfect setting to do this tribute around this time,” Ford explained.

Reflecting on the privilege of participating in the tribute, Ford stated, “It means everything, man. Without getting emotional, it’s just like the full circle of being in the shoes of a service member and also seeing the WWE extend their gratitude to myself.”

The “Tribute to the Troops” special is not only a significant event for WWE but also a heartfelt gesture to express gratitude to the military community. Following Survivor Series on November 25, this event serves as a poignant wrap-up to WWE’s 2023 calendar, with the next premium live event scheduled for Royal Rumble in January, marking the official start of the road to WrestleMania.
